Softness is Strength: Honoring My Body’s Natural Flow This Women’s Day
Happy International Women’s Day! 🌸
Today, we celebrate our achievements, our resilience, and our voices. But there’s one voice we often forget to listen to: our own bodies. For too long, we’ve been taught to follow a linear, 24-hour 'hustle' culture designed for a different biological clock. But as women, we are cyclical by nature. We have internal 'seasons' that affect our mood, our creativity, and our strength.
This Women’s Day, my gift to myself (and to you) is the permission to stop fighting my biology and start flowing with it.
Listening to your body is the highest form of self-respect.
1. The Winter Phase: Menstrual (Days 1–5)
The Vibe: Internal, quiet, and reflective.
During this phase, your estrogen and progesterone are at their lowest. Your body is doing a lot of hard work internally, which often leaves you feeling drained.
-
Emotions: You might feel more sensitive, intuitive, or simply introverted. This is the time for "soul searching."
-
What to do:
-
Activity: Gentle yoga, stretching, or long walks.
-
Work: Focus on reflection. It’s a great time to journal, review your month, and set intentions.
-
Self-Care: Early bedtimes and cozy nights in.
-
2. The Spring Phase: Follicular (Days 6–12)
The Vibe: Fresh, creative, and energetic.
As your period ends, your estrogen levels begin to rise. This is like a "brain fog" lifting. You’ll likely feel a surge in physical energy and mental clarity.
-
Emotions: Outgoing, optimistic, and ready to take on the world.
-
What to do:
-
Activity: Try a new workout class or high-intensity interval training (HIIT).
-
Work: This is your peak "brainstorming" window. Start new projects and learn new skills.
-
Social: Say "yes" to those coffee dates!
-
3. The Summer Phase: Ovulatory (Days 13–16)
The Vibe: Confident, glowing, and social.
This is the shortest phase but the most intense. Estrogen peaks, and you’re literally at your most magnetic. Research suggests women are often more verbal and socially persuasive during this window.
-
Emotions: Peak confidence. You’re feeling yourself!
-
What to do:
-
Activity: High-energy workouts or group sports.
-
Work: Schedule your big presentations, tough negotiations, or job interviews now.
-
Social: The perfect time for a first date or a big party.
-
4. The Autumn Phase: Luteal (Days 17–28)
The Vibe: Nesting, detail-oriented, and (sometimes) "The Great Filter."
Progesterone rises here, which has a calming effect but can also lead to PMS as it drops toward the end. You might find your "BS detector" is at an all-time high.
-
Emotions: You may feel the need to retreat. Irritability can kick in if you’re over-scheduled.
-
What to do:
-
Activity: Strength training or Pilates.
-
Work: You are a detail machine right now. Use this time for "admin" tasks—filing taxes, organizing your closet, or editing documents.
-
Self-Care: Prioritize magnesium-rich foods and saying "no" to social drains.
-
Final Thoughts
Your cycle isn't just about reproduction; it’s a vital sign of your overall health. When you stop expecting yourself to be the "Summer" version of yourself every single day, you unlock a much more sustainable way of living.
Listen to your body. It knows the way.
